Write your California Assemblymember to Support AB 153
California State Assemblymember Randy Voepel is leading an effort to increase the tax deduction in the state for hosting a high school exchange student from $50 to $500. He has introduced AB 153, which would increase this deduction for hosting J-1 students and extend that deduction to F-1 students. Existing law does not allow this deduction where the taxpayer receives compensation or reimbursement for hosting a student. If passed, the measure would go into effect on January 1, 2020 and expire (unless reenacted) on January 1, 2025. You can find the language of the bill here.
Support this effort by sending a letter to your California State Assemblymember expressing your support and requesting them to cosponsor the bill. Please invite your staff and program partners who live in California to send a letter as well by using the link below.
