House amendment to FY27 State Department appropriations bill seeks to eliminate funding for Fulbright Program

On June 17, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO, 4) introduced an amendment (Amendment #110) to the House Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Department of State funding bill that seeks to eliminate funding for the Fulbright Program.

The amendment text proposes completely removing the bill line item that currently includes $287.8 million in program funding for FY27.

The Fulbright Program has incredibly strong support in Congress and this amendment is very unlikely to gain traction among House Members or to be adopted. Even so, the Alliance is conducting a letter writing campaign to make our voices heard and show Congress just how important the Fulbright Program is to the American people. We’re asking Congress to reject the amendment should it come up for a vote during the full FY27 State Department funding bill process that is expected to occur early next week.
