Academic
Alliance member organizations, in conjunction with the Department of State, facilitate a variety of academic exchange programs, including inbound (international exchange participants coming the United States) and outbound (American exchange participants going abroad) exchanges of varying lengths. Academic exchanges are dynamic and flexible because they are built on partnerships with nations, private and public entities, and individuals that respond to changing priorities and needs. Among the most prominent academic exchange programs are:
The Fulbright Program (for students, teachers, scholars, and mid-career professionals)
The Humphrey Fellowship Program (for mid-career professionals)
English language programs including the English Access Scholarship Program, English Language Fellow Program, Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program, English Language Specialist Program
Programs for undergraduate students including The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD), Critical Language Scholarship Program, Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for Student Leaders, The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)

Citizen, Professional, and Youth
Alliance member organizations, in conjunction with the Department of State, facilitate a variety of professional, youth, cultural, and sports exchange programs. These programs promote sustained and substantive contact among American and foreign professionals, artists and performers, coaches and athletes, as well as youth communities. While doing so, they increase cooperation and collaboration between the people of the United States and other countries throughout the world.

Virtual Exchanges
Several Alliance member organizations facilitate virtual exchange programs, which use digital platforms to bring together students, professionals and emerging leaders across the globe for discussions, trainings, and collaborative projects. Virtual exchanges expand access to international experiences, especially for those unable to participate in in-person programs.
