Assefa receives Outstanding Leadership award from Upwardly Global
Mariam Assefa, Executive Director of World Education Services (WES), was honored by Upwardly Global with its prestigious “Outstanding Leadership” award at a gala event attended by more than 400 people last week in New York City.
Upwardly Global is an organization that helps to dismantle barriers to employment for skilled immigrants, and with which WES has partnered for many years. Assefa was recognized for her “personal and professional accomplishments elevating the profile of immigrant Americans, as well as supporting diversity in the workplace.” She was also honored for having “built WES from 3 employees to what is now considered the world’s leading credential evaluation service” and “for her vision and leadership in building an invaluable resource for immigrant professionals that opens up access to workforce and academic inclusion.”
In her remarks accepting the honor, Assefa spoke about the importance of WES’s work in helping immigrants utilize their talents in the U.S. She noted that she was accepting the award on behalf of the entire WES staff, and expressed her gratitude for all they do to make WES worthy of distinction.
WES is a long-time member of the Alliance, and Assefa has served as Alliance vice chair, and as a member of the Board and of the Executive Committee.
