The U.S. Senate on Thursday unanimously approved an amendment offered by Sens. Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) that would require the development of a strategic marketing plan to increase the number of international students attending institutions of higher education in the United States. The amendment was adopted as part of the FY 2006 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations legislation. That bill, H.R. 3010, was also approved by the full Senate on Thursday, by a vote of 94 to 3.
