Canada and Hong Kong put increased efforts into internationalizing higher education

The internationalization efforts of higher education institutions in Canada and Hong Kong were featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education today. As the Chronicle reports, both countries have expended increased energy on internationalizing university programs and providing a global focus for their students.

According to the Chronicle, Canadian universities are currently internationalizing their programs in various ways: while some schools are establishing programs that combine internationally oriented academic study, study abroad, and service work, others are training faculty members to globalize curricula. In Hong Kong, efforts are being put into encouraging foreign schools to set up branch campuses, the Chronicle reports. In this way, Hong Kong is hoping to “bolster [its] image as a sophisticated, globalized city” and to simultaneously expose local students to an international environment.
