House Subcommittee Expresses Concern About Negative Perceptions of U.S. in Latin America

Concerns about the perception of the United States in Latin America led Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN), Chair of the House International Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, to conduct an internal assessment of U.S. diplomacy in that region over the last two weeks. “We’re talking about perception down there,” Burton told representatives from the State Department, the Organization of American States (OAS) and other outside witnesses at a hearing last Wednesday to discuss diplomacy in the region.
