The House of Representatives yesterday passed legislation to fund the Department of State for FY 2007 by a vote of 393-23. H.R. 5672, the appropriations bill for Science, the Departments of State, Justice, Commerce and Related Agencies (SSJC), would provide $436,275,000 to fund educational and cultural exchanges. This total marks an increase of $10 million over the FY 2006 level (after the funding bill’s across-the-board cut was applied), and is $38 million below the level requested by the Bush Administration.
