Both the House of Representatives and the Senate yesterday approved legislation yesterday which included a provision to keep the federal government funded at current levels through Friday December 14, 2007. The continuing resolution, or CR, was added to the Department of Defense appropriations measure for fiscal year 2008, the first appropriations bill to be completed this year. It will now be sent to the President for signature.

President Bush has nominated Goli Ameri, an Oregon businesswoman who has served as a delegate to the UN Commission on Human Rights, as Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs. Ms. Ameri is the founder and president of eTinium, a consulting and market research firm specializing in telecommunications. She holds bachelors and master’s degrees from Stanford University.
