Each October, Alliance members come to Washington, DC, for a membership gathering that includes meetings of issue-based task forces, a networking dinner, and influential guest speakers from in and around the exchanges field. Participation in the Membership Meeting is reserved for Full Members only.

2011 Membership Meeting
  

The Alliance's 2011 Membership Meeting, held November 8-9 in Washington, DC, included 132 representatives from 61 Alliance member organizations and more than 20 representatives of the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Highlights of the 2011 Membership Meeting included:

• A plenary address by Ann Stock, Assistant Secretary of State (R) (at right with Alliance Board chair Christine Schulze);
• Two pre-conference sessions: a J-1 compliance workshop, and an in-depth update on Congressional appropriations;
• A discussion with the ECA Deputy Assistant Secretaries, featuring Ambassador Adam Ereli, Acting Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs; Lee Satterfield, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchange; Meghann Curtis, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs; and Rick Ruth, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Private Sector Exchange;
• Seven task force breakout sessions featuring substantive discussions between Alliance members and ECA representatives; and
• A reception at the Embassy of Ireland.

2010 Membership Meeting

The 2010 Alliance Membership Meeting was held October 5-6, 2010, in Washington, DC, and featured attendance by 129 representatives from 58 Alliance member organizations and more than 20 representatives of the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Highlights of the meeting included:

• A plenary address by Ann Stock, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs (at right);
• An ECA Senior Official panel discussion featuring Stanley Colvin, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Private Sector Exchange, Marianne Craven, Managing Director of Academic Programs, and Chris Miner, Managing Director of Professional and Cultural Exchanges;
• Eight Task Force breakout sessions featuring substantive discussion between Alliance members and ECA representatives.

2009 Board and Membership Meeting

The 2009 Alliance Board and Membership Meeting was held October 21-22, 2009, in Washington, DC, with attendance of 110 representatives from Alliance member organizations. In addition to significant by-laws changes, the meeting featured remarks from Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Judith McHale and Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO).
